Fundamental British Values
Fundamental British Values at Lily Lane
At Lily Lane, we actively promote the Fundamental British Values as part of our Personal Development curriculum and wider school life. These values help prepare our pupils to become responsible, respectful citizens who contribute positively to society.
The Four Fundamental British Values
- Democracy- Pupils learn about the importance of having a voice and making decisions fairly. We encourage participation through school councils, class votes, and pupil leadership roles.
- Individual Liberty - Children are supported to make informed choices and develop independence in a safe environment, understanding their rights and responsibilities.
- Rule of Law- We teach respect for laws and rules, both in school and in wider society, helping pupils understand why they exist and the consequences of breaking them.
- Mutual Respect and Tolerance- Our curriculum promotes respect for others, regardless of background, faith, or beliefs. Pupils learn to celebrate diversity and challenge discrimination.
How We Embed These Values
- Through PSHE lessons, assemblies, and themed events.
- By encouraging pupil voice and leadership opportunities.
- Through curriculum links in subjects such as History, RE, and Citizenship.
- By fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across the school.
These values are not just taught- they are lived every day in our classrooms, playgrounds, and community activities.
